There is no spoon

A new study done at the Macfarlane Burnet Medical Research Institute has uncovered both the tendency of teaspoons to disappear and a new philosophy: Resistentialism. The French knew about it. They have a saying - les choses sont contre nous; the things are against us. I am pleased to see such a marriage of science and philosophy.

Clergy with common sense. What would Diderot think?

The campaign to get 10,000 signatures in favour of science and evolution from clergy in the US has succeeded. They have a next step to counter the voices of ignorance and bigotry in the US of fundamentalists. Go see what it is, and if that is your faith community, support it.

Apathetic agnostics don't know if they'll get involved, and don't care very much. But we applaud those of conviction who do.

QUIET IN HERE, ISN'T IT?

I AITEN'T DEAD.

Just resting. Well, not exactly. I have spent the better part of the last two weeks preparing a grant application. Since this requires the mental dedication of Sir Humphrey Appleby combined with the steely-eyed resolve of the Rt Hon. Jim Hacker, my blogging has been sporadic. OK, absent.

This also means I'm not having any Deep Thoughts lately. But I shall, one day, I hope. Or, I might just get the grant and never have to think again.

But I have new tires on my Bandit, so that's a nice thing. Cheers

Late note: I forgot to show you what my Bandit is...
Later Late Note: Dang, that link is dead. OK, breaking copyright and all:

This is frightening

This item on Leiter's blog shows the absurd lengths the current neo-McCarthyism has gotten to. A translator and scholar has been convicted, it seems, for just talking about terrorism, because he wouldn't entrap the lawyer he was advising.
